Business and Pleasure at Sea...the SeaDream way!
Mixing business with pleasure can be a trip---literally. Many of us do it, frequently jetting here and there, sometimes halfway around the world, to attend business meetings, conventions, conferences, seminars, workshops, pow-wows, reunions and retreats. We check into elegant big city hotels or seaside resorts, for example. These official meetings on business trips can be stimulating. And the downtime is usually fabulous.
The business trip becomes a vacation.
But here's another way to mix business and pleasure that can also be a trip---literally---yachting. These days it's becoming more and more popular to hold business events at sea. And that brings us to SeaDream Yacht Club...
SeaDream is an innovative yachting company that operates the twin, ultra-luxury mega-yachts SeaDream I and II. When they were introduced in 2001 they quickly became the prototypes of the casual and intimate yachting experience. Today, these two sleek and rakish SeaDream mega yacht cruisers are highly acclaimed by discerning travelers seeking a unique seagoing experience.
SeaDream offers a free-form holiday, unstructured ambience that provides guests with the opportunity to live life at sea at their own pace and in their own lifestyle. No clocks, no crowds, no lines, no stress. It's all about personal choice and guests almost believe they are aboard their own yacht. That's why they say SeaDream is yacht company; not a cruise line.
So in addition to operating scheduled sailings of seven days or more with only a maximum of 110 guests in 55 staterooms, SeaDream has been chartering its twin yachts to large and small companies for those meetings, conventions, conferences, seminars and pow-wows. Some companies even use SeaDream for small incentive groups of award-winning employees.
Approximately 40 percent of SeaDream Yacht Club's business is what is known in the industry as “full ship charters.” So what does a company get when they charter SeaDream I or II?
Basically, it receives a casually elegant, private yachting experience and accommodations for from 47 to 55 couples in an intimate, open, environment with approximately a one-to-one crew to guest ratio and that result in exquisite service. Gratuities are included.
All meals are served open seating (dine with whoever you wish) in a beautiful indoor Dining Salon or outdoors in the Topside Restaurant, open to the sea air but shaded. Complimentary wines are served with luncheon or dinner. In addition there is 24-hour room service with a select menu of simple and healthful offerings. SeaDream cuisine is highly acclaimed and has received a number of awards for its fine dining.
All staterooms have ocean views and include a flat screen television, CD player, internet access, bar, multiple-head shower units, Bulgari bath amenities, personalized stationary, fine Belgian linens and plush terrycloth waffle bathrobes.
There's also a variety of “water toys” available at the yacht's stern Marina, a platform with wave runners, kayaks, sunfish sailboats, windsurfers, zodiacs for water skiing, tubing and wake boarding. If golfing is your thing, there's a state-of-the-art golf simulator. Guests will also find Segway Human Transporters to try out and Balinese Dreambeds with views of the sea up on deck. There's a library and an extensive CD and DVD library. In addition the SeaDream yachts have swimming pools and hot tubs, piano bars, casinos and each feature a Thai Spa and Fitness Center and even a well-stocked boutique.
For shore-side exploration there are mountain bikes and also the opportunity to share various activities with the crew like biking, hiking kayaking or shopping with the chef, for example.
Beach parties and shore side barbecues are popular and frequently feature what Sea Dream calls its “Caviar and Champagne Splash Party” which takes place at water's edge.
Perhaps even more interesting than companies chartering SeaDream is that many private families are chartering a SeaDream Yacht for their own celebrations---weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, bar mitzvahs, or for no special reason at all. With 55 staterooms families can charter a SeaDream yacht and bring along family, extended family and friends, if they wish.
What else do families get when they charter a SeaDream yacht? Privacy, of course. Writer Gary Walther expressed it this way in Town & Country Magazine : “Call it the Garbo syndrome. Like the famously reclusive diva, affluent Americans increasingly want to be left alone when they travel.
Where do the SeaDream yachts sail? In summer months to small, seldom-visited yachting ports and classic cities along the Mediterranean coast, the Greek islands, up to Croatia and into the Black Sea . Similarly, in the winter months the twin yachts sail in the Caribbean to various yachting ports.
These deployments are usually seven-day sailings or more but those who charter can make up their own itineraries and length of time aboard. Remember the Garbo syndrome we mentioned earlier? Well, if Greta Garbo were around today she would probably sail with SeaDream.
